The short version
- Shortcuts for Muse reads a page only when you run a Shortcut on it, and only the parts that Shortcut uses.
- What it reads goes to one place: Muse's message box, in a muse.ai tab you can see.
- Your Shortcuts are stored in your browser. We have no servers that receive your data, and no accounts.
- The extension has no analytics. This website counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies or track you across sites.
- We don't sell, share, or transfer your data to anyone.
The extension
What it reads, and when
The extension reads nothing in the background. It reads a page only when you run a Shortcut, by clicking the toolbar icon, using its keyboard shortcut, or choosing it from the right-click menu. Chrome's activeTab permission limits that access to the tab you acted on, for that moment.
When you run a Shortcut, it reads only what that Shortcut's instruction asks for:
- Page title and address of the tab you're on.
- Page text: the visible text of the page, up to 60,000 characters.
- Selected text, if you've selected some.
- A link's address, if you right-clicked a link.
- Clipboard text, only for Shortcuts that use it, read at the moment you run them.
- Answers you type when a Shortcut asks you something before it runs.
- Today's date and time, from your device, for Shortcuts that use them.
If you right-click a link, the extension uses only that link's address. It never opens or reads the linked page itself.
Where it goes
The extension combines what it read with the Shortcut's instruction and places the result in Muse's message box, in a muse.ai tab. If the Shortcut is set to send automatically, it presses Muse's Send button; otherwise it waits for you. That is the only place the extension sends anything. Once it's in Muse, Muse's own terms and privacy policy apply.
On muse.ai, the extension only places that text and, when set to, presses Send. It doesn't read your Muse conversations.
What it stores
- Your Shortcuts and whether you've finished the welcome screens, in your browser's local extension storage on your device.
- Short-lived hand-offs, in your browser's session storage, which is cleared when the browser closes: a right-click run waiting for you to answer a question, and a Shortcut this website offered that's waiting for you to confirm it.
Uninstalling the extension deletes all of it.
Permissions
- activeTab and scripting: to read the tab you ran a Shortcut on, at that moment only.
- contextMenus: to list your Shortcuts in the right-click menu.
- storage: to keep your Shortcuts on your device.
- The extension also accepts messages from this website, and only this website, so it can tell the site it's installed and receive a Shortcut you chose to add. Nothing is added until you confirm it inside the extension.
It has no access to any other website, and no permission to read your tabs or browsing history.
This website
shortcutsformuse.com is a static website. It has no accounts, sets no cookies, and shows no ads. The only third-party script is Cloudflare Web Analytics, described below.
- Pages check whether the extension is installed by sending it a message from your browser. Nothing about that is sent to us. Add Shortcut passes the Shortcut to the extension, which asks you to confirm it.
- Copy prompt copies text to your clipboard on your device.
- The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes standard request information, such as IP addresses, to deliver and protect the site, under Cloudflare's privacy policy. We don't use that information to identify you.
Website analytics
To learn which pages are useful, the website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics. When a page loads, a small Cloudflare script reports the page address, the page that linked you here, your browser and device type, your country, and how quickly the page loaded. It doesn't use cookies or local storage, doesn't fingerprint your browser, and doesn't follow you to other sites. We see only totals, such as how many people visited a page, never a profile of any one person.
Analytics runs on this website only. The extension never reports anything about your browsing, your Shortcuts, or what you send to Muse.
Our commitments
We use the data the extension reads only to do what you asked: run your Shortcut in Muse. We don't sell it, transfer it to third parties, use it for advertising, or use it to determine creditworthiness or for lending.
Children
Shortcuts for Muse isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect anyone's personal information.
Changes
If anything here changes, for example when we add community sharing with sign-in, we'll update this page and its date before the change takes effect.
